Storylines for Low Carbon Futures of the European Energy System

This report presents the foundation of the openENTRANCE storyline framework which develop narratives of realistic and possible future energy worlds. The possible future energy narratives are equally possible, and could happen in the future.

The storyline “frames” of the openENTRANCE project are outlined here in qualitative terms. These storylines are consistent and coherent frames which shall enable the implementation of a structured approach for quantitative scenario studies and eventually pathway development.

The concept of the openENTRANCE project is unique as quantitative scenario studies are not only conducted by the project consortium, but they are openly available along with the open energy system model that will be used to generate these scenarios to third parties, e.g. researchers, stakeholders, decision and policy makers. Making these tools accessible to many not just this project.
